[She's been putting this off. Actually, she's managed to put it off for a very long time now. But as slow as she may be, she knows when there's something she needs to say.]

Look, this probably isn't how you're supposed to do this sort of thing, but I'd rather get it out there up front and over with. I'm sorry for any... strange things I may have said or done while I wasn't quite feeling like myself.

That goes for Valentine's Day, and more recently. Though I have to admit recently wasn't that bad. In fact, if it was always like that here, I could probably get used to it. Eventually. Enough to hold my complaining down to a dull roar, anyway.

So I was wondering, too, about these filial spirits. If magic is really something here, it probably behooves me to try to see it at work. Anyone willing to volunteer to let me? I'm not saying I'm going to try it out myself, or anything like that. I just want to see it.

[ With his cough finally gone Helios has been meaning to get out the house. His been inside all week, okay? And he actually feels one hundred percent better, thanks to the fact that his condition was, in fact, a shift. This is the perfect opportunity to practice his own magic as well as show someone else. ]

I, ah, wouldn't mind showing you if you'd like. The filial spirits can't be seen themselves, but their powers are quite real. [ Though Helios of all people knows how hard it is for some people to believe such a thing. Many worlds don't have magic and even in his own where magic does exist, it's not believed to actually be real by the general population. But that's due to other circumstances entirely. ]

[Right. So this is one of the people who say they can perform magic. Alright, then; she's decided to keep a (very slightly) open mind. Enough to keep going, anyway.]

Then I'd like to see it. As long as you're not planning on turning me into a toad, or making me sleep for a hundred years, as your demonstration.

[ Helios will laugh warmly. There's no sense of condensation and it at all. ] Oh, heavens no! That would just be dreadful, I'd never do that to someone. [ Besides those spells where especially tricky and not at all easy to perform. ]

Mm, but I could show you a fireball or two. Those are a bit easier to conjure up on the spot.

That's actually a good question. [History is full of 'magic' that has perfectly acceptable rational explanations now.]

Let's start with 'magical powers most people don't have'. I'm prepared to waive my right to pointed hats, cauldrons, and brooms.

Am I to assume you are of Midgard-- Earth? I do not understand the reference, I'm afraid, but my particular skill is storm summoning. Coupled with strength and speed that is uncommon among humans.

We usually have magic discussion around 1 in the afternoon. Although if you're interested in seeing anything sooner, I do have some time on my hands today.

I'd actually be up for that. I mean, I'm...not sure how I feel about talking to invisible nature spirits, but it can't be any different from talking to the gods. Just with more immediate results?
