[003] - Voice: Excuse Me.

[She's been putting this off. Actually, she's managed to put it off for a very long time now. But as slow as she may be, she knows when there's something she needs to say.]

Look, this probably isn't how you're supposed to do this sort of thing, but I'd rather get it out there up front and over with. I'm sorry for any... strange things I may have said or done while I wasn't quite feeling like myself.

That goes for Valentine's Day, and more recently. Though I have to admit recently wasn't that bad. In fact, if it was always like that here, I could probably get used to it. Eventually. Enough to hold my complaining down to a dull roar, anyway.

So I was wondering, too, about these filial spirits. If magic is really something here, it probably behooves me to try to see it at work. Anyone willing to volunteer to let me? I'm not saying I'm going to try it out myself, or anything like that. I just want to see it.

[ Helios will watch the camera carefully trying to discern Daria's overall reaction to the display. It's not the first time that he's had to deal with someone who didn't believe in magic and was shown out of their own volition and request. It's always a bit hard to take in and that's why he's somewhat concerned whenever he has done it in the past. This is no exception and he gives a small nod with a late smile as he moves to pick up his journal, the camera shakes with the action but he's still on the screen as he talks. ]

Alrighs that sounds fair enough. Where would you like to meet if-if you, ah, wanted to still see it right now? We can always do it another time if you prefer.

How about we meet by the fountain in town then??

[ Helios doesn't mind performing magic in front of her, or anyone else who asks in the future. He's just not sure what her reaction might be, but it is a risk that one has to take when showing such things in this place. ]
folklorist: (I suppose that works)

[ Helios will give a hearty laugh as he shakes his head on his end. ]

Well, it's a good thing that we're not reenacting sleeping beauty then, hm? [ He gives Daria a warm smile before he tidies up his room bit and then goes to the door. He'll turn off the video function then leaving only his voice to be heard. ]

I'll meet you outside at the designated spot.

[ Helios will give Daria a good-natured wave when he sees her walking towards him. ]

Ah, good afternoon. Now that I think about it...

I-I never told you my name did I? [ Helios will laugh shake his head. ] So absent-minded of me. My name is Helios, it's a pleasure to meet you.

It's a pleasure to meet you, Daria. I believe that you're right. Computers and those things always do have a bit of distance in terms of greetings and normal methods of communication.

[ But he was here to discuss at with her it was probably best just to show her the spell once more. But he was a bit wary in doing so, mainly because it was always so very alarming to most people from non-magical worlds. It was a very delicate process the way he saw it at least. ]

Oh no. Nothing as fancy as that. I have most of the spells for my own world memorized. It's the sigils where you need the spell book. Those can be a bit tricky, and dangerous, if done improperly. But, ah, perhaps I can give you another demonstration.

[ Helios will smile back at Daria, before he moves a little to his right. He'll close his eyes and hold his palms outward and upward towards the sky. And then two bright white orbs will form in the middle of his palms. They'll slowly take shape, morphing into two perfectly detailed little sparrows. Both of which will hop around on his palms before taking flight silently through the air. ]

You can do all sorts of things with light spells. Typically they're used for illusionary magics, or ah, cloaking spells. But you can also have a bit of fun with them too.

[ His smile is beaming now as he watches the two birds flutter and dart through the air. Their mannerisms and actions completely identical to that of real sparrows. ]

[ The sparrows will flutter and dart around both Helios and Daria for a time before one lands on Helios' shoulder and the other will land of Daria's. Helios smiles brightly as he motions with his hands towards the two birds. ]

It's...a bit hard to accept I admit. If I didn't know any better I would think so too. But this is the combination of Hyt's magic and my own. Hyt being one of the spirits here.
folklorist: (A rather interesting thought)

For some things it is, yes. But it depends on the elemental attributes of each spell. Such as combining fire and ice to make a very potent and lingering defensive fog spell. Or, or lightning and water for an extra charged attack.

[ Helios smiles. ] It's light spells and dark spells that really hold the, ah, oil and water metaphor. All light spells done together with dark spells usually fail. It takes someone of considerable strength and finesse to control both at once.

[ Helios blinks and laughs a bit sheepishly. He'll rub the back of his neck. He shakes his head and holds up a hand as he does so. ]

Oh no. Even I still have trouble doing such things, dark magic isn't easily accessible in my world. So even knowing a good number spells is rare. Black magic is a very dangerous subject to know. But even I still have much more to learn in terms of magic. Especially since I've come here, there are so many different worlds and variations of magic in general.

[ Yes he definitely has a lot more to learn here, even if he's been here for three years now. New people arrive from different places so the amount of learning one could do is limitless. ]
folklorist: (Oh is that right)

I suppose it depends on how you use it. But, ah, the spells themselves are a bit morally trying. But there's no need to worry about that, not here at least, I don't think anyone here would use such things in that sort of manner. We're all rather on the light side, I suppose you could say, of things. Or least most of the people and magic users I know are.
folklorist: (I'm just your average headmaster yep)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-04-16 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well perhaps a better definition would be basing it on how a person has been brought up. I mean most of the spells are never usually taught, so it's a likely chance that most people would never know about their powers. But the people that do, well, it's their judgment on whether to use it for good or-or evil. Dark magic is a bit more addicting than light magic is. I suppose that's because of its origins in my world. Demons were the ones that taught humans most dark magical spells. And even then some of those spells weren't even all that bad. But you know how things are when people tamper with powers unknown. Humans unlocked darker magic from the ones initially given to us.

[ Here Helios will shrug and sigh a little shaking his head. ]

I'm not sure the reason why, but I just know that there is a very strict rule on using it. And that the Magic Council punishes all those who are found to be using it which is a step in the right direction. But that's, ah, in my own world.
folklorist: (Curiousity killed the cat you know?)

Usually, yes, it is but demons in my world are somewhat different. They're not as, ah, evil and dark as most people seem to think they are. I mean I do have quite a few of them attending my school as it were. But it is that preconceived notion that all demons are evil which makes their magic dark. I suppose it also depends on how you use said magic. Even light magic can be used in a negative way

[ Helios will smile sheepishly, a hand will come to the back of his head. ] But, ah, that's enough of me talking about such things. Do you intend to ever try contacting them? The spirits I mean.
folklorist: (Do go on I'm listening)

[personal profile] folklorist 2013-04-19 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that's entirely understandable. The spirits aren't exactly defined by any given shape or form. They exist beyond our realm of vision, but they do exist here. All of them have a selected elemental property that one can harness upon contacting them. How a person goes about contacting them varies from person to person, but most people tend to come across them in areas that are synonymous with their chosen element. Sona for example, the water spirit, can be found near any one of the lakes.

[ He motions off towards the woods where the lake resides. ]
